God’s Primordial Waters

Dear Church Family, Friends, and Guests,

Something is telling me we're at another unique crossroad in the life of the Hollywood Church. Challenges to sustainability call us forward in faith! In this, I choose to see God at work, and am praying for the grace and strength to preach differently. I want to more explicitly share God's actions in the world, God's call upon our lives, and to encourage personal engagement and commitment to each of you through scripture. I'm going to be calling you to faith, hope, love and joy, even in the sufferings present and yet to come.

Today's message centers on water—vital for all life, and symbolic of spiritual things too. It’s a message that grounds us in the materiality of our embodied selves, while poetically, metaphorically, and experientially teaching us lessons that fill and feed the spirit. Water is life, and Jesus is the Living Water from which we drink our lives of faith and hope, love and joy. 

We're celebrating a baptism today! Baptism is an immersion in God’s primordial waters, a mystical rebirth. Kiki wants to experience these waters. In your presence, Kiki will feel the cleansing, renewing, and covering waters today. While this step usually entails membership, Kiki has yet to go through a discipleship process. Kiki will attend to this post-baptism. I'm very excited for this moment! If you've been considering Jesus, I hope you'll consider baptism into Christ too. 

May God be with us as we navigate uncharted waters ahead.
