Anticipating Apocalypse, Part 2

Dear Friends, Guests and Members,

The topic today anticipates something much more fun—the ways in which God is presently revealing Himself in the world. I look forward to hearing what our leader/members have to say as they teach this next month! The annual Apocalypse Series starts next week. I hope you'll join us for the duration!

Last week, I took some time in Revelation 17. I noted the linguistic and cultural disconnects and the ways the images, still best understood symbolically, spoke in a vernacular in John's day that we have to work at deciphering today. I'm convinced that Revelation is a revelation about Jesus, and that the context has much to do with empire, oppression, even persecution. I believe there was corruption then as now.

This week, we'll look just a bit at more classic understandings of what the close of earth's history might look like, and examine the text for good news. My thought is, Jesus is more than sufficient. God wins!

Today is also a Communion Sabbath, and the first day our summer intern, Chase Wilder will be with us. I hope you'll make him welcome.

Praising God for each of you!

Pr. Greg
