"We Are the Light" Art Exhibition Illuminates the Power of Community, Creativity, and Shared Humanity
LOS ANGELES, CA — Opening May 24 at Hollywood Adventist Church, We Are the Light is a collaborative art exhibition celebrating the creativity, diversity, and resilience of artists from Studio 526 and members of the Hollywood Adventist Church congregation. This exhibition invites viewers into a vibrant dialogue about healing, belonging, and the light we each carry.
Studio 526, an arts program of The People Concern, is based in the Skid Row community and supports artists who are currently or formerly unhoused. More than just a studio, it serves as a creative home for individuals of remarkable strength and vision—artists who use their craft to build community, reclaim identity, and transform pain into power.
“At Studio 526, we see every day how creativity connects us,” said Alice Corona, Arts Program Manager. “Art allows us to process trauma, share our stories, and recognize our value—not because we’re being rescued, but because we already carry something worth honoring. We Are the Light reflects that truth and celebrates the brilliance within each of us.”
The exhibition features a wide range of work—paintings, drawings, mixed media, and more—all created in a spirit of collaboration and mutual respect.
“This exhibit is a testament to the beauty that emerges when we truly see one another,” said Mae Chinn, co-curator and longtime member of Hollywood Adventist Church. “We believe in the sacred light within every individual. For us, this work is inspired by the love of Jesus Christ, who taught us to look beyond circumstance and recognize each person’s inherent worth.”
Co-curator Michael Queenland stated, “We envisioned a space that not only makes people’s creativity, strength, and stories visible but actively celebrates them. We Are the Light embodies the power of collective expression and the potential that arises from art grounded in mutual respect and authentic relationships.”
We Are the Light is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Department of Arts and Culture.
Hollywood Adventist Church, widely recognized for its deep commitment to justice, inclusion, and the arts, embraces creativity as an essential expression of faith and community life. The exhibition reflects the church’s mission to be a space where all people belong and every story matters.
